UPDATE: MacRumors Minimal has been completely redesigned from the ground up. I believe that the new design is vastly cleaner and — more importantly — much more readable. I hope you enjoy the redesign as much as I do!
Cleans up and gives the display of macrumors.com a minimalist feel. And more importantly, it drastically reduces the page load time.

This is a great little Safari extension but there is one issue, shouldn't the ads stay on the redesigned page? This is what helps pay the bills for the site. There's no business model now.

@Chris Herbert - I definitely understand what you're saying, but the whole point of the extension was to speed up the site. The ads were adding greatly to the load time. And to be honest, if the administrator of Mac Rumors would speed up the load time and clean up the site a little, I wouldn't need an extension. But, perhaps I will add a "Show Ads" option in the future. Thanks for your input, though!

Agreed with Herbert. Advertising is an important aspect of any site. If you don’t like the ads, don’t visit. I’m quite surprised your plugin doesn’t even load the ads, etc. Most other plugins are just a CSS rewrite, but this seems to change the structure. Great plugin. Hope to see more of these.

@Milind - Wouldn't it be the same for me to say, if you don't like that I'm hiding ads, then don't use the extension? I do appreciate your comments though, and I do understand the importance of ads. As to why I don't even load the ads - once again, the purpose of this extension was to speed up load times. The ads significantly added to the load time. I'm glad you like it though. And if the ads weren't so heavy, I would just load them, like I do in my IMDb extension.

Hi there, how right you were about that twitter plugin! I was astonished that after having blocked the twittme (or similar) domain, not only macrumors started to load in an instant. Now with your extension one can see most central information. Thanks.

Great extension, awesome look! Macrumors is one of my favorite sites but totally failed to keep up with the times... Now if only you could find time to adapt the extension to also tweak the forums (http://forums.macrumors.com/), that would make my life perfect :-)

The 1.5 redesign works fine on the main page, but if you click on a story and it goes to a page of just that story the subject line is white font on a white background - invisible. Thanks for all the great work.

My version (1.7) has a grey stroke with zero padding around each article. Is there a way to remove this? The previous version I used didn't have this. Otherwise, brilliant extension for one of my regular blogs.

I'm working on the issue that Daniel, Coke, and EG mentioned, but I'm not able to replicate it in either Safari or Chrome. If anybody else is having this issue, please let me know what browser / browser version you're using, and also what version of the extension you're on. It wouldn't hurt to let me know what OS and OS version you're using. Thanks!

UPDATE! I tried turning back on the MacRumors Minimal 1.7.1 extension in Safari 7.0.1 this morning (the same versions as yesterday when it appeared broken) and now everything works as it should! Hopefully Coke and EG will have a similar experience. Must have been some fluke of the content on macrumors.com at the time we had issues or something.

So, Chrome no longer allows extensions that aren't from the Chrome Web Store. Any chance it might be released there or in an alternative format (e.g. userscript)?

I am having the problem too. Feel free to email me and I'll send you screen shots. It is worst when running Ad Block, so you might test it with and without Ad Block turned on. With Ad Block off, the minimal format loads, but then disappears on Safari Version 7.0.6 (9537.78.2). With Ad Block on, but Minimal turned off, MacRumors loads fine. With Ad Block on and Minimal turned on, nothing loads. With Ad Block off, and minimal on, MacRumors loads, then vanishes. This seems to me to be mostly a problem with Minimal, but wanted to provide a bit more information to.

The Chrome version (2.0.0) seems to have stopped working in the last few weeks on Windows. I've tried disabling all other extensions, but still no luck. To say the least, I really miss seeing MacRumors as it was meant to be seen.

Commandor, there's a trick to get legacy extensions like this working again, at least on a temporary basis. I described it over at my own site with regards to my own extension (http://aichon.com/dumpbox/extensions/), but it applies to MacRumors Minimal equally as well That said, before you can do the steps I linked to, you'll need to do these ones first: 1) After downloading MacRumors Minimal, change the filename from "MacRumorsMinimal-2.0.1.safariextz" to "MacRumorsMinimal-2.0.1.safariextz.xar" (note the ".xar" added to the end). A .xar file is more or less like a .zip file, just for reference. 2) Double-click the .xar file to open it. This should create a folder named "MacRumorsMinimal-2.0.1.safariextz". You can delete the .xar file since you won't need it any more. 3) Inside the newly created folder, you'll find a folder named "MacRumorsMinimal.safariextension". 4) At that point, you can start at step 3 in the steps I linked to.
